Clinical Effects of Piroxicam Injection in Ankle sprain An Open Non-Comparative Trial

Abstract

|
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are widely used in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, usually as an oral formulation. In an acute condition it might be an advantage to initiate the treatment with a parenteral formulation.
The authors have conducted a clinical study to evaluate the efficacy and toleration with newly develo piroxicam parenteral formulation.
In order to investigate the efficacy & toleration of the short-term use of intramuscular piroxicam, the authors have treated 24 patients with acute or delayed ankle sprain. Results were as follows.
1. Out of 24 cases, male were 18, most of cases were young adult.
2. An overall evaluation of efficacy, 17 patients (71%) were excellent and good by physicians, 18 patie is (75%) by patient.
3. An overall evaluation of toleration, 17 patients (71%) were good and excellent by physician and by patient. 4. There were no remarkable side effect.
5. In conclusion, the efficacy & toleration of short-term use of intramuscular piroxicam in patient of acute to and subacute ankle sprains were effective.
